‘Bhairav Se Bhairavi Tak’

This journey of ragas commenced from Benares, on November 18th 2017, home to the
legendary Hindustani vocalists to Pandit Rajan & Pandit Sajan Mishra, and where they
have learnt their music and imbibed the spirit of the city. This tour is officially supported
by the Government of India, and ICCR. The concept of ‘Bhairav Se Bhairavi Tak’ is
conceptualized by Saloni Gandhi. The idea is to present the spectrum of morning to
evening Ragas (from Raga Bhairav to Raga Bhairavi). The science of notes, for creating
ragas according to the time & season, is unique to the world of Indian classical music.
This tour also provides opportunity for vocal workshops with the maestros. The motive
behind these workshops is not just about the usual vocal formation but to go deeper in
the explanation of aesthetics, expressions and presentation of vocal music. ‘Bhairav Se
Bhairavi Tak’ is about reaching out to people around the world, creating a dialogue, and
go on a journey of Ragas together.
The concept of an extensive world tour is conceived and actualized by Ms. Saloni
Gandhi. As a profession she is working with the traditional weavers and crafts people of
India and has a textile studio in Delhi which she runs with a friend and partner. Her
passion about Indian music prompted her to envisage and work on this mammoth
venture.

Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver:

ICMSV was founded in 2009 by Akhil Jobanputra when he was 12 years old, with the goal
of creating a platform and a network in which to share all Indian classical music events
in British Columbia. ICMSV started as a humble Facebook page which has become a
valuable resource for those interested in the classical arts, to stay informed about
events happening locally. This Facebook page is still active with over 1000 followers and
is an integral part of ICMSV’s mandate. On December 6th, 2017, ICMSV was
incorporated as a not-for-profit society and established a Board of Directors.
The purposes of the society are as follows:
– To promote Indian classical music & dance events in the Lower Mainland,
– To present a broad spectrum of programming pertaining to Indian classical
music & dance and,
– To foster education and awareness of Indian classical music & dance.
